The SONIC-TIME Study
Early Temporal Dynamics of Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter After Glucocorticoid Therapy in Giant Cell Arteritis

Design and Objective
SONIC-TIME is a single-center, prospective, observational substudy embeded within SONIC-GCA. It evaluates early changes in optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) and temporal artery ultrasound following empiric glucocorticoid initiation in GCA. The study aims to determine how quickly these ultrasound findings change after treatment, helping researchers better understand their potential to assess early treatment response.
What is Optic Nerve Sheath Ultrasound ?
This exam is not dangerous, and takes less than 2 minutes to complete. By measuring the size of the optic nerve sheath behind the eye, researchers hope to see if this test can detect signs of GCA early and track how well treatment is working over time.

Who is eligible ?
Participants enrolled in SONIC-GCA with a confirmed GCA diagnosis who have completed the SONIC-GCA baseline procedures may be eligible.
How can this study help patients ?
SONIC-TIME may help patients by improving our understanding of how ONSD changes after treatment begins, potentially helping clinicians better monitor early treatment response and guide patient care.
